Arabian Gulf League outfit Bani Yas are close to completing the signing of Robinho on a two-year contract.
The club had been in talks with the Brazilian star for almost 3 weeks now. Just when it was thought that an impasse had been reached,Bani Yasvice-chairman Mubarak Awad Bin Mahroum claimed in a recent interview that talks have been progressing well and that the player should sign in the next couple of days. Robinho will be signed from AC Milan without a transfer fee, as it is thought that the Italian club are just happy to get the player off the books.
It was widely anticipated that Robinho will move to Santos, where he has spent several seasons on loan from European teams. However, he has decided to take up this one last paycheque from the Middle East. Robinho will be one of the highest-paid players from this region running around $ 4.5 million per season. The signing will helpBani Yas potentially compete for the title. The club finished in a disappointing eighth place last season and have watched their rivals Al Jazira discussing a potential deal with Roma for the signing of Gervinho.
The Ivory Coast star performed exceptionally well in the Champions League last season and he could be a major marquee name.“The deal is nearly complete, leaving only small details on the contract terms [to be agreed]. This will be resolved this week before the player comes to Abu Dhabi for a medical and formal contract signing.Robinho is fluent in centre midfield and attacking from the left, he is also experienced in the industry and still has a lot to offer Bani Yas next season as we build a strong team that can compete across all tournaments,” said the vice-chairman about the club’s new signing.
